Day 4 (feels like day 40) Regensburg to Schwangau

What a day. I fell in love a dozen times. Or maybe 2 dozen times. Regensburg, you have my heart. Oh. Em. Gee. I will be back, and I will be hanging out for many days. We need a lot more time together, you and me!!

So anyway......we made our way from our hotel, to the old city of Regensburg. I wanted to check out the old Roman bridge, and we wanted to find the house of a certain guy....but more about that later.
The old gateway into the city, when it was a walled Roman settlement. What stories those walls could tell us....

The bridge is awesome. It was built in about 1100 or something. Facts escape me at the moment, and Internet is crap here, so no Mr Google for me tonight. I love that the Romans could build stuff a million years ago, and here they are still today. We build a house today, and something falls off a week later. Go figure.

Anywayyyy......so everywhere you turn in Regensburg's old city is AWESOMENESS! Awesome little ancient features, mixed in with modern additions.

And the cathedral. OH THE CATHEDRAL. Wow. I'm not religious, but oh wow, the Catholics do know how to put on a good show!! That thing is HUGE, break your neck trying to look at the ceiling (good practice for Rome, I suppose!) kind of huge.

We went exploring up some gorgeous alleys, and completed our other quest for the day. Finding Oscar Schindler's house. God bless you, Mr Schindler!
Photos are on my phone...will add later...

Eventually, Bek and the kids dragged me back to the car kicking and screaming (but with lots of Regensburg souvenirs!!) and we began our drive to Schwangau and the lovely Schloss Neuschwanstein!!! YAY!

We took the scenic route, and got to see more amazing countryside, and very German villages and houses!

The closer we got to Schwangau, the weather got worse, and worse. The tops of the Alps were hidden under a blanket of fog, so we were hugely surprised when suddenly Neuschwanstein appeared out of the gloom! I may or may not have screamed like a little girl. Haha. And not for the first time today (there was a squirrel. I was excited. The end)

I've been looking forward to this for a loooooooong time, and didn't ever think I'd get to visit here. Old mate King Ludwig was a crazy lil monkey, and I've been fascinated by him for ages! Yay for being able to check out his place tomorrow!

We had arrived with plenty of daylight, albeit foggy and gloomy, left so trekked up the hill to check out Hohenschwangau Castle. I believe this was the home of crazy Ludwig's parents. I could be very wrong. But for now, let's just pretend it's his oldies house. Haha. It was cool wandering around the grounds and admiring the amazing views. Another place I could just sit and look at all day long. Words really don't do it justice, and photos just cant capture the beauty. That's it everyone, pack your bags and get over here. You won't regret it!!

And the lake. Oh, the lake. Again, words don't do it an service at all. The water is so clean, so clear it's ridiculous. The mountains surrounding it are just stunning. Even in the foggy twilight, it took my breath away. Love it.

So tomorrow we are up early to take a horse carriage up to Ludwig's digs, and have a little sticky peak inside!! Yay! Then it's off to Munich, and tomorrow night we head to Roma!!!! Sooooo excited to see my Romans, and meet my little man, Mattia!! Aunty Kel loves you Matti!!!!

But for now, I'm off to sleep, and will wake to my view FROM MY BED (!!!!!) of the castle. Über cool.

Night!

Kel xox
