Day whatever....The Colosseum

So today dawned and it was pouring rain. Not great. My last day in Rome, and a million things still on the "to see list", and it's raining. I didn't want to get out of bed. But I did. And off to the Colosseum we did go!

And it was AWESOME! Haha. The rain held off until we were finished, and even then it was just a light sprinkle! YAY!!

We too the metro in, and I knew the station wasn't far to the Colosseum, but we stepped out onto the street, and BAM! Colosseum!!!

I was so excited to be there finally, looking at what has been such an icon of Rome for centuries!! And in true Roma fashion, the thing is freaking huge!!!! Hahahaha

So over we went to join the equally huge line to get in! We were tempted to buy a ticket from one of the dodgy tour guides who walk up and down the line selling entry for twice the price, but seeing as they ignored me after I chased them down (seriously, don't try and get me to buy your stuff, then when I actually try to, ignore me and walk away!! I don't need your stinkin tour anyhow!) we just waited and the line moved pretty quick. I think we were inside within 15 minutes or so. Not too bad!

What an amazing place. I can't begin to imagine how phenomenal it must have been in its heyday. You know, except for the whole slaughter of Jews and slaves and animals and whatever. That is pretty nasty. But the structure itself would have been incredible! It still is incredible!!!

So Roberta had a seat on some old broken down columns, as you do, to feed Mattia, and so I wandered off to explore!! I tagged along with various tours (haha, told you I don't need to buy your stinkin tour!) and listened in to bits and pieces. But mostly I was busy being amazed by this place. Loved it!

Again, I'll let the pictures tell the story. There isn't a lot I can say about it anyhow! Lol

After I was done ogling ruins, I had the obligatory Gladiator photos. Haha, what a ripoff, but funny nonetheless!! Haha
Then off we wandered, down a street choc full of beautiful buildings, and ruins! My favorite, yay!!! :)

We stopped for lunch at a cute little ristorante, and I FINALLY had some pasta in Italy!! Better late, then never! Haha. It was delicious, of course.

Then we finally made it to the Spanish Steps (via some more shopping, I'm terrified of my excess baggage fees coming home!). To be honest I'm not sure what the allure of the Spanish steps are. They were packed full of people so were hard to actually see and/or enjoy, though to be fair, there was also a fashion show being set up, and the rain had started again, so not the most enjoyable conditions really!! And no, Aaron - no suave Italians tried to whisk me away at the Steps. Hahaha, so you're stuck with me. Haha. Sucks to be you!! ;-)

We stopped in at Roberta's mums house for afternoon tea, which was lovely even with the language barriers!! Thank god Roberta is multi-lingual!!

And tonight Fabio took me on a night tour of Rome. OMG, I love this city during the day, but at night HOLY CRAP!!! The views were incredible!! Absolutely beautiful!!!

I love love love Rome, and DEFINITELY need to come back here and spend more time exploring her, and soaking her up!! AND I am going to miss my Romans so much, I'll especially miss my lil Mattia cuddles!!! Such a sweet little boy!! I'm so happy I got to meet you Matti!!! Hopefully it won't be toooooo long until we can have holidays together again! Next time, all of us!

I'm off to London tomorrow! Can't wait to explore another city I've been dreaming of visiting for so very long!! Hey guess what!?!!?!? Dreams really DO come true!!! :D
